Anyone for pies with chips?

 

We were lucky enough to have the State of Origin shown on the big screen on the pool deck. Apparently, the signal comes from Fiji – through the Australian Overseas Television network – we are not allowed to take the direct broadcast from Channel 9 due to copyright arrangements.

Since we follow the Mighty Maroons and 4 of our table mates follow the other team – we agreed to meet up on the deck to watch the game.

It was a beautiful balmy evening, somewhere off the coast of tropical Qld – near Cairns I think – and the barbecue was open to serve footy food – pies, hot dogs, chips, hamburgers etc. to get the crowd into the mood.

There was a lot of good natured rivalry between the supporters of both teams – but the writing was on the wall when the deck attendants arrived to cover the blue and white striped loungers with maroon covers!!!

By the time we arrived on deck, our table area was a sea of blue – balloons, flags, wigs, shirts etc. – the cruise staff got into the spirit, handing out maroon and blue leis to the supporters of each team. We had packed our coloured flags as well as shirts, scarfs and flags as well.

Suffice to say, it was a great close match and the better team won on the night – to make it eight wins in a row.
